Water-Soluble Platycladus Leaf Extract – Quercitrin
Platycladus orientalis leaf extract is a highly purified, single-component substance obtained by extracting and purifying the dried young twigs and leaves of Platycladus orientalis (L.) Franco, a plant belonging to the genus Platycladus in the family Cupressaceae. The extraction process employs ethanol reflux extraction followed by macroporous resin purification, thereby maximizing the preservation of the active constituents’ structure and biological activity.

II. Product Introduction
1. Source
Platycladus orientalis leaf extract is a highly purified, single-component substance obtained by extracting and purifying the dried young twigs and leaves of Platycladus orientalis (L.) Franco, a plant belonging to the genus Platycladus in the family Cupressaceae. The extraction process employs ethanol reflux extraction combined with macroporous resin purification, which effectively preserves the structural integrity and biological activity of the active constituents.
2. Core Efficacy and Applications
(1) Cooling the blood to stop bleeding, astringent hemostasis:
Effects: Traditional Chinese medicine holds that it “cools the blood to stop bleeding and disperses blood stasis to reduce swelling.” Modern pharmacological studies have shown that its tannin and flavonoid constituents possess astringent properties, which can promote clot formation at wound sites, thereby reducing bleeding and alleviating hemorrhagic symptoms caused by blood heat or blood stasis.
Applications: Used for various bleeding disorders, such as hemoptysis, hematemesis, hematochezia, hematuria, and metrorrhagia, and formulated into proprietary Chinese medicines for hemostasis, including Platycladus Leaf Pills and Ten-Cinque Powder; externally applied to assist in hemostasis for traumatic injuries and hemorrhoidal bleeding, or incorporated into hemostatic ointments and adhesive dressings; also added to gynecological care products to alleviate discomfort associated with functional uterine bleeding.
(2) Anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-itch, and soothing:
Effects: Inhibits the release of inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6), thereby reducing inflammatory responses in the skin and mucous membranes; exhibits in vitro inhibitory activity against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and fungi such as Malassezia; alleviates skin pruritus and erythema, and provides adjunctive soothing effects for allergic dermatitis and eczema.
Applications: Added to skincare products such as soothing face creams, anti-acne gels, and shampoos to improve inflammation in acne-prone and sensitive skin, relieve scalp itching and seborrheic dermatitis; formulated into topical washes—such as gynecological washes and antibacterial skin washes—to aid in the treatment of superficial skin infections and vulvar pruritus; and incorporated into oral care products like mouthwashes and toothpastes to reduce gingival inflammation and promote hemostasis and gum firming.
(3) Blackening, nourishing, protecting, and strengthening hair:
Benefits: Nourishes hair follicles, improves scalp microcirculation, and inhibits follicular atrophy; reduces sebum secretion on the scalp and alleviates seborrheic alopecia; the flavonoid compounds it contains can reduce damage to melanocytes, thereby helping to improve premature graying of beard and hair.
Applications: As a core ingredient, it is added to shampoos, hair conditioners, and hair-growing serums for anti-hair loss, hair strengthening, and hair-darkening care; formulated into traditional Chinese patent medicines or health supplements for nourishing hair and addressing premature graying and hair loss (particularly in cases of blood-heat–induced alopecia); and used in scalp-care serums to improve scalp health and reduce breakage.
(4) Antioxidant, clears the throat and moistens the lungs:
Effects: Scavenges free radicals in the body, enhances superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, and reduces oxidative damage to cells; alleviates inflammation of the pharyngeal mucosa, thins mucus, and helps relieve cough and promote expectoration.
Applications: Added to anti-aging skincare products and health supplements to delay skin aging and protect vascular endothelium; formulated into throat-soothing and moisturizing products (such as lozenges and throat-relief teas) to alleviate pharyngeal swelling and pain, dry cough with scant sputum; used as an adjunctive therapeutic agent for respiratory tract inflammation (such as chronic pharyngitis and bronchitis).
(5) Other effects and applications:
Effects: Helps regulate blood lipids (reduces cholesterol and triglycerides); exhibits a certain hepatoprotective effect (inhibits hepatocyte injury).
Applications: Used as an auxiliary ingredient in lipid-regulating health supplements; employed as an adjunctive therapeutic agent for chronic hepatitis (to be used in conjunction with standard treatment); incorporated into natural antibacterial detergents to leverage its antimicrobial properties for cleaning and bacteriostatic purposes.
